Speaking of foreign policy and the candidates

Of course, that people polled in both China and France prefer Obama to Romney probably wouldn't do Obama much good among the American electorate. In fact, probably the opposite.

(Not surprising the Pakistanis are the only ones polled who prefer Obama less. That's because Romney isn't lobbing drones into their country. Yet.)

  1. Pakistan's choice of Romney is a puzzle to me. Do they think he'd be less of a hazard to them than Obama? Only thing I can figure is they have absolutely no idea who he is, but he's running against Obama so he must be on the other side of The Issue.

  3. The Kawasaki post hit the 500 comment cap. I'd say 3/4 of the comments were critical of the survey, 98% of which criticism was expressed in between 5-10 word right-wing-knee-jerk mantras about how the rest of the world wants us to fail, we're exceptional, they want us to be weak like Obama the Apologist, we're Number One, they're all out to get us, we're the leader and they should follow us but they don't like us and don't know anything about what we stand for, the rest of the world is socialists and commies who want to come in and control our elections and destroy our way of life and get all sorts of hand-outs. Oh, and they all love Obama because he's a Muslim.

Jingoism 'R' Us.  The only thing missing was a discussion of "Makers" (US) vs "Takers" (the rest of the world).

Any engagement about why (besides wanting us to be weak) other countries might prefer Obama, or whether there's any value in knowing what other countries think about our presidential candidates, was completely ignored.

(There was, to be fair, some knee-jerk anti-Romney yahooism. But a significant minority.)

Really, it's intensely depressing reading, unless you approach it from trying to have a good laugh, in which case it's rich fodder for that, too.
