I expect that regardless of what happens two Tuesdays from now, there's going to be recounting and court-based messes. But here's how things could be worse. Much, much worse.

In total agreement with you, Dave. Regardless, we'll see this in court before a winner is declared.
possibly the most depressing thing I have read about this election.
This is why I've stopped reading the Atlantic. It is fear mongering plain and simple.
I don't think it's fear-mongering, per se (it's not something trying to drive anyone to any particular action through fear).
I do think we're going to see a lot of court actions filed 7 November. (And, of course, some of them will be righteous, and others bogus, and, of course, that will all be based on what candidates I think should get in.)
I guess what I mean is that it's speculation for the sake of causing fear. It doesn't serve any other purpose that I can see.
I see your point, but I didn't see anything so obviously outlandish as to make it unworthy of passing on. I think it's an interesting, even useful reminder of how convoluted our electoral system is — and how, with bad actors, it could be even worse.
It's tapping into my fears then that the electoral process will be manipulated or subverted somehow. I am still trying to hold on to a tenuous sense of faith in our system.
Ah. Well, that i can understand. And I confess to similar fears.
