Via Doug M., something too long to reTweet:
Mark Hamill will be 63 in 2015, when next Star Wars comes out. Sir Alec Guinness was 63 when 1st one was released.
Shudders softly …
(Actually, setting the new film/trilogy in a "Yes, that's how old Luke, Leia, and Han really are, and here are their grandkids …" setting sounds just fine to me …)

I remember thinking that the timing would work out great for the third trilogy if the films came out three years apart. Episode VII would be 12 years after Episode VI, and that seemed like a good place to continue the story. I can’t imagine that the original trio will be back for the films now, though.
Well, people keep talking about it. It seems improbable to me, except in more supporting/cameo roles.
Star Wars Action News released a special podcast today discussing the ramifications of the acquisition. Chances are that the new movies will invalidate the entire Extended Universe as seen in the books and comics.
🙁
It was generally agreed that it would be nice to see Mark Hamill as the Grand Master of a new Jedi Order as seen in the EU.
I think chances are that the Extended Universe is pretty much toast, so far as SW canon will go.
That said, in theory all the Star Trek fiction out there was obsoleted by that franchise’s movie reboot, and I don’t notice a particular wailing and gnashing of teeth, so …
No, but the Trek books and comics didn’t overlap, and generally didn’t take earlier stories into account. The Star Wars EU has been very cohesive. Well, until the Clone Wars series started. Karen Traviss’ books have been invalidated now.
It’s a shame. I like the EU characters and their development. It would be pleasing if the new movies adapted the existing stories and we got to see Mara Jade and the Solo kids and all the rest.
