Okay, I can see lots of ways this could go wrong … but what I'm seeing looks pretty darned right.
(The trick is that this movie needs to have a heart, and not just be flashy SFX and profound intonations. I think maybe that's there, but "From the Director of 'Watchmen' and '300'" is not quite as reassuring as one might think in that way.)

Well, the trailer sure has me pumped up.
Though Jonathan Kent would never, ever tell Clark he might should have let someone die.
Never.
That did seem a little bit off. I understand sort of what they;re going for there, but …
I think they're probably aiming for "the answers aren't always so simple".
But you can't "update" Superman. I don't want Hyperion or Sentry. Superman is who he is. And his moral code
-which he learned from Jonathan and Martha –makes him acceptable to the world around him. He's a god, and he must be benign. But probably just reading too much into it. Which is what the trailer wants us to do. More likely, he says "Maybe", and then they discuss it and decide "No, never".
I really enjoyed Watchmen….though, I'll admit, hearing that film trumpeted as "From the director ot 300" didn't instill me with a lot of faith.
I agree with +Derrick Mims (and, for me, it's a nitpick) I can't see Jonathan Kent telling Clark to let someone die. Now, unless there's more to that exchange, we'll just have to wait and see.
I'm pretty sure I'll like it more than the most recent Superman film but, by how much, will remain to be seen.
I like the look of this guy, sans the beard. he looks like the Clark of the Earth One books.
+Mark Means – I really enjoyed Watchmen, too (esp. on recent re-viewing), but Superman is a very different sort of character / myth than those guys.
I suspect (hope) there's more to that scene with JK than just "It would be really inconvenient for us f your secret identity came out." Given what we seen before that, the "leak" may have been an actual threat to the Kents.
I like the look, too. The texturized uniform can be overdone, surely — but so can Spandex.
Oh yeah, definitely agree on the costume, as well as your other points.
It's difficult for me to imagine someone so powerful being hailed as a hero no matter what he did I think people would be terrified of him.
That does seem to be the theme they are working with here, +George Wiman — which is kind of refreshing.
Looking better and better.
The thing I dislike about the DCnU Superman is that he’s missing the humanity that Ma and Pa Kent instilled in him. It looks like this Superman my be the same. What kind of Bizarro Pa Kent does he have in this film? Jeez!
This goes on my “wait for the DVD” list (which is much more palatable in this age of big-screen HDTV sets!).
@Avo – We may be reading too much into one heat-of-the-moment line from a trailer. I’ll reserve judgment about seeing it in the theater.
I do agree with your comment, though. It’s a tough thing, because part of what’s fascinating about Supes is his balancing of his alien heritage with his humanity. Nature vs. nurture in its barest form. I think both the DCnU and, maybe, this movie are trying to explore that a bit more than the Chris Reeves flicks did (though they touched on in it in a quasi-religious fashion). The balance is maintaining someone the audience will relate to and like, vs. simply oohing and aahing.
Put me in the camp of "hoping this does for Superman what Dark Knight did for Batman"
