We drove a couple of diesel vehicles in Italy last year, and they worked quite well for us. They're coming back initially in luxury cars here in the States, but I expect that to "trickle down" through the product lines over time.

Want the damn Fiat Diesel engine and transmission of awesomeness that the Doblo you had in the US pronto.
Even better if it was mated to a hybrid battery system.
The Peugeot diesel rocked as well, great mileage and nice power…though the Fiat Transmission was just all sorts of cool.
