I applaud the women (and men) in India speaking out against a culture that focuses on rape as a dishonoring and shaming of women — turning its victims into even greater victims by how they are considered and mistreated after having been assaulted. I do home that the tragic events around this particular crime mark a sea change in Indian society — and echoes of the same sentiment in American society, too.
