His crusade against comic books nearly destroyed the industry, as he cited case after case from his research showing that kids were influenced by comics into violence, crime, delinquency, and even (gasp) homosexuality.
Except it turns out his research really didn't show any such thing. At least not until he selectively quoted from and distorted it in testimony before Congress. As is now clearly the case as his papers have become available to study.
