Seems a bit harsh. I mean, I don't really see the appeal in wrestling but then again, there aren't many sports that appeal to me. That doesn't mean I don't appreciate the hard work and skill that goes into them. You only have to look at ancient Greek art to see that wrestling was something they thought was worth portraying. Taking it out of the Olympics would be like taking football out of the Superbowl.
What next? Rounding marathons down to 25 miles because it's a nice round number in miles and kilometers?
Next we'll get rid of chariot races and foot races in full armor, and stop sacrificing bulls to zeus…
+Travis Cobb Are you sure they didn't already phase those out? I think the sacrificing of bulls was stopped in 1904 because of cultural sensitivity to the near-extinction of bison. Then-President Roosevelt made a Presidential Proclamation which swung it in favaour of the bulls and successive games have respected this.
Not sure when those other two were got rid of, but I think it was between WW1 and WW2, mainly due to the need for horses and materials during the inter-war years. Despite a propaganda film in 1959 trying to raise public awareness of chariot racing they were never brought back.
