Okay, this kind of thing should be slathered with all sorts of caveats, including that it's still a year and a half before the next election and what the next hot issue is could change at the drop of a hat.
But, all that said, there are some indications that the gun issue could increase turnout by women in support of Democrats. And while I hate to focus on issues primarily for electoral purposes, knowing that might encourage the Dems to stand up for reasonable gun control policies for the time being.

Democrats need to do something for 2014, that's for damn sure. Not paying attention to the midterm elections last time is part of why we're so utterly boned now.
These gun laws are the same that Hitler passed. US PATRIOT ACT are the same as Enabling Act. Just worded different. Read both. We Have Concentration Camps now. Hitler moved slowly to pass these laws as did CONgress and Presidents.
Actually, German gun laws in the late 30s focused just on handguns, not on long rifles. While requiring ownership permits and registration for ownership and sales, they also pointedly excluded Jews from owning or selling guns.
I believe the German government also had speed limits on many of its roads. I don't think that means speed limits are only enacted by Nazis or Fascists.

Despite the fear-mongering, there is no movement toward taking any guns, unless you consider anything less than anyone being able to sell a gun to anyone they want to be a predecessor to taking all gun.
Guns where taken away in New Orleans during diaster. And innocent shot by cops. And they (politians) are slowly working towards taking all guns away from anyone not in law enforcement. Read UN disarmerment. No dictator can bring full tyranny, geonicide and abuse with guns in the hands of American Citizens. And the leader are pro UN and against freedom.

Michelle, please don't take this as a personal attack, but you have obviously not studied the history if tyranny. Stalin is the perpetrator of the second worst genocide in history (Genghis Khan being the first), and he handed out guns like candy to his citizens. Dictators and tyrants don't care of their citizens are armed, because an armed citizenry is never as well armed or trained as the military that is enforcing the will of the tyrant. Hell, give every American citizen a fully automatic M16 and they'll still be easy to dominate by our military because an M16 is useless against drone strikes, tanks, and precision missile strikes.
Saying you oppose gun control because it's the only thing keeping us from being a dictatorship is like saying you oppose legislating the effectiveness of sunscreen, because sunscreen prevents skin cancer, it just shows you don't really understand how skin cancer (or tyrants) work.
Now that said, there is a strong parallel between our government and those of dictators and tyrants: the size of our military. Our military is bigger than the rest of the worlds' combined, excluding China. Our and air force navy are each bigger than the rest of the worlds' combined, including China. Unlike most other countries we then have another three branches of our military. If you fear our country become a tyrannical dictatorship you should be demanding that our military be reduced in size and that our police are more restricted in their power. No political party in America that can get elected supports those ideals, but the party that's anti-gun-control supports further enlarging our armed forces, and that's what frightens me when i worry that we may become a tyranny.

There is no "UN disarmament" law that the US is, or is likely to be, working under.
In addition to James' comments, I'll at, again, that the German Firearms Law of 1938 actually liberalized gun ownership laws (with the exception of the Jews). The free possession of hunting weapons by the Germany people (again, except the Jews) didn't prevent "full tyranny, genocide, and abuse" under the Nazi dictatorship.
Like James, I am much more concerned about rising police and "homeland security" abuses, but those are not going to be prevented by even the current flood of weapons in Americans' hands. They will be prevented by political action on the part of the general populace — which seems very slow in coming.
I have experienced the abuses of law enforcement, i have seen corrupt cops. And being armed doesn't help, it gives the police an excuse to kill with no justification. Arming the populace doesn't protect against the government, disarming the government protects against the government. (and the UN is powerless without the USA, they are our puppet, not the other way around. All the evidence you need of that is the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.)
If Obama followed the UN, this would be a very different country in a lot of ways (not necessarily all good). If there are specifics about where the government is following the UN without appropriate legislation, please do let me know.
Yes, there are a lot of government promulgated lies in our history, I don't know of anyone who disagrees with that. There's a big leap between Operation Paperclip (the recruitment of Nazi scientists following WWII, complete with giving them false biographies) and somehow having "10 planks of Communism" or UN domination of the government.
Now the Jews where the only ones in the trial. But US grabbed up war criminals. Why where the jews more important than other races killed at a higher number. My answer is the US backed Hitler and wanted to control court outcome. US continued mind control experements in military and CIA. Mind controlled assassians. No prosecution. Banks and Corporations backing Hitler where not prosecuted. Why not? US controlled sham prosecution to snatch up nazi war criminals to continue crime. No prosecutions by govt against these to this day.
So I'm assuming you don't count the Nuremberg trials where the 24 leaders of the Nazi party were charged with war crimes, twelve were sentenced to death, and seven were given prison sentences of at least ten years (actually only one got ten, two got fifteen, two got twenty, and two got life).
