"The Evils of Technology I Don't Understand!"

A/k/a, "Stop tryin' to 'splain, boy — I'm a-tryin' t'score political points up here!"

Clueless Texas Congressman Louie Gohmert can’t get how Gmail ads work through his thick, thick skull
Rep Louie Gohmert (R-TX) is an ignoramus, as is demonstrated by his questioning during this hearing on reforms to the Electronic Communications Privacy Act.

  1. If you click through to the Techdirt article, you can find this exchange between Rep. Goemert and that Commie Pinko Rep. Sensenbrenner.

    = = =
Gohmert: And just so the simpletons that sometimes write for the Huffington Post understand, I don't want the government to have all that information.

Rep. Sensenbrenner: For the point of personal privilege, my son writes for the Huffington Post.

Gohmert: Well then maybe he's not one of the simpletons I was referring to.
Sensenbrenner: He does have a Phd.
Gohmert: Well, you can still be a PHUL.

  2. To be fair, the Google rep didn't really explain how it works in a clear and succinct way.  This happens a lot with regards to technical topics and is one of the reasons why there are often such misunderstandings of how safe or unsafe certain things are by the general population.

On the other hand, the congressmen was both an idiot and a jackass, so I don't know that any quality of explanation would have shut him up.

  3. Congressional hearings are always fertile ground for blowhards. These events only exist to give a handful of elected egomaniacs a chance to sound off in front of the TV cameras. Is it any wonder they often end up sounding like idiots?
