Honestly, even the first movie "wasn't the same," and suffered for it (as much as I enjoyed it). I'd love to see more Firefly/Serenity — but, truth be told, what made the series special requires a series, not another movie, and I just don't see that happening.
Plus (and this is a painful reality), everyone's a decade older (me, too). And that would really require a bit of a change as well. It could be a good change, an interesting change, but it wouldn't be the "same" that I think a lot of the fans are looking for (self included) — not a frozen-in-amber snapshot, but an immediate continuation of the story-that-was. Which lightning in a bottle cannot ever be recovered (though if anyone is passing through here from a parallel universe with compatible disc technology where "Firefly" didn't get canceled would care to contact me, I would pay a large sum of money for the Series 2-5 sets …)

Not without Wash, I think. It just wouldn't be the same. But… Arrested development is doing a great job of being the same/not being the same. So it can be done, but I can also understand why joss doesn't want to go there.
I think the comics are great, and the perfect way to continue the series. But those don't appear to count for some reason.
I think the comics were uneven, though there were some great bits there. And, it's a different enough medium that it doesn't quite satisfy.
As much as I love Firefly I'd rather see Joss try his hand at a different Sci-Fi series. Perhaps on a channel that wouldn't be so quick to kill it.
Well, he did "Dollhouse" (which I never could really get into), and he has involvement in "Agents of SHIELD" (which I'm looking forward to), so those count as SF.
I think what made FF so special (and so lighting-in-a-bottle) was the ensemble (part of where I think "Dollhouse" didn't gel). Whedon's role was invaluable, but the chemistry between the protagonists was as well.
Coincidentally, we started watching the series again last night for like the 7th or 8th time. I have loved all his other shows eventually, but Firefly is the only one that caught and held me from the first time I saw it…which, oddly enough, was the Serenity movie.
I agree with Les. Whedon, yes. Firefly, no. Time to move on and keep the series+movie as its own little story frozen in time.
On another note, I really wish Dollhouse had been given a chance. I really liked it once they knew they were cancelled and started getting to the meat of it, but they didn’t give it the same stretch to get going like they did for Buffy and Angel. Whedon just needs to start working with Netflix or HBO or Showtime or something. I’m not even hopeful that SHIELD is going to get a decent shot with ABC. Disney has a vested interest in seeing this work as a vehicle for promoting the Marvel movies, but not necessarily any interest in low ratings just for the sake of Whedon fans.
I was something of a Buffy (and, sometimes, Angel) fan, back in the day, but never anything like Firefly.
