A ★★★★ review of Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)
I had honestly forgotten how much I enjoyed this movie — thus it was a surprise to watch it again and really get a kick out of it. Not much to add to the below, though I’m not quite as effusive on rewatch as I was a couple of years ago. There’s a lot to like here, though the plot feels strangely convoluted, and the climactic “Here’s how Cap ends up in the state we find him in at the beginning of the film” still makes no sense to me. But for a ch…
Watching "Captain America" again
I was surprised to find how much I liked this film, as my memory of it was not all that favorable (though the review, https://hill-kleerup.org/blog/2011/11/07/movie-review-captain-america-2011.html, was effusive). While a bit more episodic than I find comfortable, this is a very solid and enjoyable comic-book film.

I think it's probably my favorite of the individual Phase 1 movies. I've actually been mulling over a blog post analyzing why I like Cap so much, since that character type usually just annoys me.
I don't know that I can go that far, +Brittany Constable — I think it may be my least favorite (well, except for IM2, of course) — but I do like it a lot.
Well, I liked it quite a bit – I like this Cap better than Iron Man, anyway. Which one was your favorite?
Hmm. If Phase 1 is everything through "Avengers" … hmmm ….
I'd actually probably say
1. Avengers
2. IM1 (very close; better story in and of itself, but Avengers has more WOOT!)
3. Thor
4. Cap (very close behind)
5. IM2 (a ways behind)
I can't speak to the final Hulk movie, which appears to be kindasorta included in Phase 1.
The range between 1 and 4 is not all that great.
Avengers does have more Woot than a lot of things, actually. (Now pondering Woot.)
I think it's a pretty good movie, but it's interlaced with some excellently done fansqueeful moments that just make it a pleasure to watch.
