To the extent that it tugs and pulls, yes. But the overall structure of the wave is remarkably consistent.
Yeah, the up-loop is gravity, and the vibrations in that loop are caused by varying friction in the chain as it is pulled out of the pot, shaped by the very specific form of the chain (each link doesn't permit a very large angle of bend (120 degrees or so?).
I'm not sure how much play we see in the chain, so it could be more, but, yeah.
Very cool. But how did he discover this phenomenon? I mean, who has 50 meters of beaded chain laying around to play with?
