Families brace for impact of food stamp cuts
+NBC News: Sweeping cuts to U.S. food stamps will kick in today and many people who depend on the program to put breakfast, lunch and dinner on the table are bracing for the impact.
The automatic cuts, which total about $5 billion, are a result of the expiration of temporary funds from a 2009 stimulus.
Americans are expected to suffer an average loss of $36 a month from a $275.13 per household benefit. There are a near-record 47.6 million Americans, representing 23.1 million households, on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

Let’s not forget there are a lot of veterans who need SNAP. But, I realize that for politicians, those people lost their usefulness when they ceased to be cannon fodder and therefore, they do not need to be fed.
@Ellie: We salute and support all proud veterans, as long as they don’t ask us for anything that costs money.
