The Silmarillion Project
Every chapter of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Silmarillion, as illustrated by Dresden Codak author Aaron Diaz
Silmarillion envisioned
A neat project by Andrew Diaz of "Dresden Codak" fame. Having just finished The Silmarillion, I appreciate his vision (even where I don't neccessarily agree with it). I'm not sanguine about an HBO series, but I'd definitely go for an illustrated version of the book.

Unlike the Hobbit, the Silmarillion has enough plot for three movies.
It has enough plot for an endless series of movies. But 99% of what would come up on the screen would need to be made up / interpolated from the text.
+Dave Hill Better than mangling a more detailed work in the transition to cinema.
+Gary Roth I think it could be "mangled" either way. Consider movies based on Greek myths — the wide quality in adaptations of the character (and tales of) Hercules, for example. (Which comes to mind because I saw an ad last night on TV for a truly awful-looking Hercules coming to movie theaters.)
+Dave Hill Point conceded.
I’d watch that!
