Though I am not a big sports fan, I would welcome serious competition to the NFL.
That said, the NFL has deep enough pockets and enough political clout to bury these guys totally unless they find a way to co-opt them.
On the other hand, doing so might provide leverage to remove the NFL's tax-exempt status as "promoting the game of football". So it will be interesting to watch. At least on a meta level.

I remember, back in the 90s I think, when they tried to get "World League Football" going. Honestly, I found it more interesting than the NFL.
I would welcome the competition to the NFL. The NFL, understandably, would not.
