Paid what you're worth, worth what you're paid

'The “paid-what-your-worth” argument is fundamentally misleading because it ignores power, overlooks institutions, and disregards politics. As such, it lures the unsuspecting into thinking nothing whatever should be done to change what people are paid, because nothing can be done.'

It's also invidious because it values people based on the money they earn (an argument that I've had people very seriously argue to me). It makes a mockery of "all men are created equal," the foundation of our political and social institutions, not because we've ever treated that as more than an ideal, but because it argues against the ideal itself in solidifying the advantages and perquisites of the powerful.  Which is what's really behind the "toxic myth."
