I had a spare 90 minutes this afternoon, so I gave it a quick DVR watch-through, to see if it's something I wanted to get the family involved in. And …
Hurm.
There's some good story potential here — the crippled and enclaved remains of humanity living in modern, culture-twisted fortress cities after the Archangel Gabriel and many of the low-powered Angels of Heaven declared war on them 25 years ago, when God disappeared. Their only defender, and ultimately savior, the Archangel Michael.
Now war is coming back, the hopes of the past decades are beginning to fade, throw in a little dab or twelve of The Hunger Games and prophecy and a modicum of relatively inexpensive special effects …
… and you get a show that's not nearly as interesting as I'd like, even verging on dull, though not nearly as offputting as the frequent Violence! Nudity! Mature Themes! warnings would imply.
Plus the acting's pretty mediocre, even Anthony Head's.
So … undecided. It could get a lot better. It could … not.
I read about this the other day and was pretty "meh" on it, as well.
I might give it a shot, though.

+Mark Means I'd say that's a pretty accurate synopsis. The show has more story lines — too many of them soap operatic — than you can shake a stick at. If it were someone in my writing group, I'd encourage them to simply dramatically and quickly, if for no other reason than we don't get enough of anyone or anything to really get a good feel for it (or for anyone to say any lines that aren't out of Melodrama 101).
There are some possibilities here, but they need some course correction pretty quick. I'm still undecided whether or not to share the cheesiness with the family.
It sounds, sort of, like the first season of Heroes.
Thanks for the heads up.
+Mark Means Yeah, but "Heroes" was … cool. At least the first season. 😉
