The Marvel Cinematic Universe pushes out from the familiar

Honestly, I'd not really considered the unfamiliarity factor regarding Guardians of the Galaxy. Doubtless that's because I'm a comics wonk and naturally I know how the GotG (in various versions) fit into the Marvel Universe, and of course I have informed speculations about the various Marvel Cinematic Universe-related bits and bobs (the Collector, Thanos, some cosmic MacGuffin) that will hook this movie in with what we've seen to date, so obviously I'm not expecting Iron Man or Thor or Captain America to show up.

And just as naturally and obviously, some folk aren't quite sure what to expect from it.

Here's hoping it does well.

This movie is Marvel's biggest risk to date. I'd never heard of the Guardians prior to the movie announcement, but the trailers have convinced me it's a must-see. It doesn't seem like that's true for everyone. Hopefully it lives up to the promise of the trailers and pulls in the big numbers.

  1. While I'm sure I'll give it a watch, just because Marvel's been doing excellent movies of late, I'm still not thrilled that they're doing this GotG and not the Charlie-27, Nikki, Yondu, Vance Astro, etc. group.

  2. While I read the Classic GotG group Way Back When, I'll be honest there was never much about them I cared for other than the Vance Astro / Captain America / Justice thingummy.  Okay, and maybe Starhawk/Aleta.  And the whole Korvac / Avengers thing they were tied into was really cool.

But I enjoy the current combo (as convoluted as its continuity is) better. Though I'll miss Moondragon and Phylla-Vell.
