Sure, there's plenty of razzle-dazzle, but the fundamental theme of the new Doctor — who am I, am I a good person, what kind of messes have I left behind me — sound like a great direction for the character.

Advocating pirating someone's work is hardly in the arena of 'common (sic) sence'
Maybe, but some of the Doctors in the original series exhibited the same self-doubt, at least occasionally. Nevertheless, the various Doctors need not be all the same, so long as their basic essence remains consistent. (Are we oursleves the 'same' person as we were? Nearly every cell in our bodies changes within 3 years or less. Is that not a regeneration?) Whatever, we will enjoy the new Doctor, and/or enjoy critiquing him!

Agreed! But the issue of anything 'owned' by the BBC is intersting – as the UK public has payed for it with their television tax aka license. Of course, the fame of the Doctor has spread far beyond the British Isles…
+Jefferdaughter Sure, I just think it's nice that such a personality direction has come up in the "modern" Doctors.
+Jefferdaughter Personally the restrictions the BBC throws at it's "property" is frankly LAME. The merchandise rights and all the 'goodies' that BBC has licensed far more pays for the show then any tax/license could ever provide. Can't walk into an FYE here in the states, or any comic store/sci fi store worth it's salt without seeing huge displays of very expensive items for sale..all with the BBC logo attached to it–and all sold at a premium.
They would be far better off posting the entire episodes here on YouTube or some such totally free site to watch it–and then reap the rewards of having a even larger fan base–all with money to spend on the gadgets and toys. (hope you didn't see this twice. It went under the wrong screen ID)
I would certainly encourage folk to find legal means to watch the show, or, failing that, find ways to make it worth the Beeb's while to continue producing it. I am very sympathetic to finding alternative means of viewing where there is no good, legal recourse, but only in such circumstances.
