How not to get computing devices out to students

LAUSD's iPad program was one of those "sounds good on paper" ideas that has been horribly botched from Day 1, starting with the idea of locking the tablets down to just being usable at school and only for academic stuff (https://hill-kleerup.org/blog/2013/09/26/fun-finds-a-way.html) and rolling forward inevitably to … finding corruption in how the whole contract was worked out. Sigh.

Hopefully, while they rework the project to be better managed commericially, they will also rethink the technology and how it's implemented and why.
