oh! The Battle of Kiska shows up in my fave military history book "Turn Around and Run Like Hell: Unconventional Strategies That Worked" in the "Deceit" chapter, I believe. 🙂
Per my mom: "Yes, Uncle Edo was in the Aleutians during WWII. He was on the island of Adak. He did mention the cold, but but did not mention combat. As I recall he said their main orders were to keep the Russians out."
