Wrapping up (mid-season) "Agents of SHIELD" [NO SPOILERS]

Aaaand …

… now I'm ready for the "Agent Carter" mid-season mini-series.

I've been enjoying "Agents of SHIELD" this year a lot more than the first 2/3 or 3/4 of the first season. Much less done-in-one, more interesting plotting, more things blowing up, more crazy drama.

On the other hand, as they've expanded beyond the original core team, they've both ended up with some interesting new characters and reducing the air time (and diluting the effect) of the characters they have.

The mid-season finale had some great moments, which I'll have to describe obliquely: Skye having some creepy moments with someone, Skye taking the shot, a couple of major men going mano-a-mano, Raina being as spooky-silly-creepy as ever, Agent 33, Fitzsimmons having some words.

But there were some not-so-great moments, including the rather abrupt departure of a major antagonist, and a climax / ending that was so shadowed and intercut that it was difficult to quite tell what the heck went on at times (and this as a comics geek, not as an average viewer). Indeed, that latter was probably one of the most crippling flaws in this episode, which did indeed ratchet up the stakes, action, and story, but probably left a lot of folk confused. And it's why I'd have to give this a B+ at best.

That said, I am looking forward to the series resuming in the Spring, but I'm also very much looking forward to some "Agent Carter" goodness kicking off in early January. Until then I will also enjoy one less new show overflowing my DVR …

[Note: The attached article does have spoilers. But also explains some stuff I missed on the first go-around.]

  1. +Dave Hill I'd give it an A, this was one heck of an episode. But yeah, your right, the Whitehall thing wasn't done right. I thought the ending was good but it could have left some more suspense. I must give kudos to the show, an epic turn around and it's not even through its second season.

  2. +Scott Randel One thing I had not realized is that, in the comics version (Jonathan Hickman rendition), Whitehall was the Hydra leader known as the Kraken. Which would have been pretty cool in and of itself.

I'd rather see them get Hugo Weaving back as the Red Skull. After all, what looked like disintegration might simply have been transportation …

  3. in the comics there is a person named Daisey Johnson and we learn thats her first name and in the comics Johnson is a high ranking shield agent with earthquake powers. so Im thinking thats her especially since there was shaking ground

  4. Everyone who has posted wow. I think trip is dead. What has become of Raina. Skye is ok but Raina did not escape like Skye. Finally WHERE IS DEATH LOCK!?????!!!! We have it seen him since the last seasons ending.

  5. +Charlotte Huether Yea she did escape. She was the first to start breaking out. She had orange eyes and spikes on her skin..It flashed pretty quickly. Then After Skye bust out of encasement and everything is shaking you can see Raina in the shadows but you cant get a real good picture of what she really looks like but very alien looking.
