Christopher Lee Cornell doesn't sound like a particularly nice guy. On the other hand, there's no sign that he was actually plotting any sort of attack on the Capitol until an FBI informant trying to reduce his own sentence started firing him up to do so. At which point the FBI steps in, collars Cornell, and toots its own horn about yet another terrorist plot averted:
At which point John Boehner steps in and claims this is exactly why we need to renew the PATRIOT Act, even though there's no indication in the criminal indictment of how the PATRIOT Act, or the parts that allow for surveillance of American citizens under it, actually came into play in this case.
And so it goes.
