I'm actually quite happy with Win7 at the moment, but a free upgrade to Windows skipping-9-right-to-10? That might be tempting, if my hardware will handle it.
Windows 10 free for all Windows 8.1 and 7 users for first year after release
Microsoft is thinking of “Windows as a service.”
I'm running it on an old laptop right now. Its got all of the power sipping features from Windows 8.1 and the return of the power user options that disappeared after 7.
I have 8 on my desktop and I hate it. I'll be upgrading as soon as possible.
Why fix what isn't broken? Like you, Dave, I'm quite satisified with Win 7. I regret putting 8 on Ellen's laptop. I'll consider Microsoft's offer but, with a year to consider it, I'll take my time.
Windows 7 is solid, the best OS they've ever released. But it's also officially into extended support. It has a finite shelf life. While I hate the Windows 8 UI, 8.1 is power sipping and fast.
From what I've seen, Windows 10 takes the best of both.
