This is not a new battle. The difference, as far as I can see, is that we (as a nation) have simply forgotten the terror of the diseases that can be prevented by vaccination.
Do we really need epidemics to remind us?

Cowpox and the Constitution
Those who deny the science of vaccinations are shirking a duty of citizenship.
Yes, we need this epidemic. Finally California's legislature is considering a bill with much stricter vaccination laws.
Do you consider the recent outbreak an "epidemic"?
I don't recall seeing much about last year's outbreak, though I guess the powers that be had their hands full pushing Ebola.
I've heard the recent flu outbreak referred to "epidemic proportions" by the CDC. Not sure about the measles…
In any case we may as well consider it as an epidemic. The fact we have a friggin cure in a shot any refusal to take this is bringing back eradicated diseases should scare people.
I don't know what the epidemiological definition of "epidemic" is — I don't have the sense we have reached there with measles, in particular, yet.
What this has done is, small scale (so far) demonstrate what the overall weakening of our herd immunity has meant. Seems like a fantastic warning opportunity.
+Dave Hill I disagree, we are seeing the power of libertarian personal freedoms, or the negs of it. 😉
