Though in Wisconsin, that song may be changed to "Everybody's Working on the Weekend," as the Republic legislature works on a bill to make it easy for factory workers to "volunteer" to work 7 days in a row without a day off. Wisconsin Factory Productivity Problems Solved!
These Republicans Want to Take Away Your Weekend
In Wisconsin, a new bill is threatening to kill workers’ one day of rest.
Because everyone is clamoring to work non-stop with no days off, right?
I've worked 7 days a week for years in healthcare. Big deal! Beats clamoring for $15 for minimum wage to flip burgers. If you want extra money get educated or work more hours.
+trudy pelkey Healthcare, wow. Cushy job. My husband is a cerified heavy duty mechanic. To force someone to work 8plus hours for seven days a week, and commute, is UNSAFE. A person gets tired, and they make mistakes. Do you want someone working on your car, a garbage truck, or who works with hazardous chemicals to start making mistakes?
And who gets fired if a mistake is made?
He is not going to go to school to change his career. If we lived in Wisconsin and this law passed, we would move, plain and simple.
Why is the right so nasty?
I’m glad I never had to be treated by Trudy – if she was working every day then she was making mistakes due to tiredness.
+trudy pelkey Honestly, I'd just as soon avoid being cared by you, then; continous full-time work increases error rates, which is not just a problem for mechanics but also for doctors and nurses.
My main concern here, though, is not just the danger of non-stop work, but that workers will coerced to "volunteer" for it by companies that would rather overwork what they have than invest in the overhead of hiring additional workers for added shifts.
