If the band fundraiser of selling mattresses is not a success, it will not be due to a lack of effort and expense on our part, as we ended up buying a new mattress/box spring set for ourselves, a new mattress for +Kay Hill, and a new mattress for the guest room Murphy bed (h/t +Mary Oswell).
That's a lot of mattresses.
Mattress shopping is irksome, because you're making a relatively snap judgment about transitory comfort (or lack thereof) in circumstances very unlike what you'll be in when actually making use of the product. Plus, "under the hood," there's a ton of technical stuff that the manufactures like to obscure with vague, trademarked terms that don't lend themselves to easy analysis. Additionally, it's bloody expensive.
In the end, we did some shopping in the school gym, then went off and ran some errands, then relaxed at Starbucks while I did some quick research (h/t http://www.themattressunderground.com/), and then went and spent a lot of money.
Further judgment and evaluation? We'll have to sleep on it.

I see what you did there.
