The wealthy and their politico-punditry representatives would have you believe that taxes are unfairly focused just on the wealthiest, in an anti-business, anti-success, anti-capitalist, anti-American socialist-communist plot to let the freeloaders drain the precious bodily fluids of the job-makers.
But such numbers usually are focused on tax rates, which, in a progressive tax system, makes sense. When you factor in state and local taxes (on property and sales/use), the disparity is not nearly so pronounced.
Think the poor don’t pay taxes? This chart proves you very wrong.
In fact, state and local governments tax them more than the rich.
I will gladly trade my more favorable tax rate for the much more favorable income of the super-wealthy. Think any of them will take me up on it?
