Old-Timer

Today marks my 29th anniversary with my employer. That's actually the "adjusted service date" — I started in June of 1984, but took a couple of years off to teach school in the early 90s.

I've actually been pretty fortunate in the company — and, more importantly, the people — I've worked with and for. While there have been times when I looked around at alternatives, overall the opportunity to do a variety of things within a company that's grown tremendously in that time has been enough to keep me around.

I've got another decade-plus before I can really consider retirement (which is a very strange thing for me to actually type). Will I still be here then? We'll see.

  1. I can't even comprehend 30 years at the same company. I'm coming up on 4 years at my current employer and that puts it in second place, longest is 5 years.

    Congrats on sticking with it.

  2. I was at my first job for 18 years, then 5 years at another company, then back to the first for another four years. Then the first one was sold and we were all laid off. I worked at the next company 8 years, then it was sold and dissolved. I've been at this company 2.5 years. So far, so good.

But I am so ready to retire.
