With my Father/Mother-in-Law moving here to Colorado (something I'm quite pleased about), we've also been tasked as the local family Welcome Wagon to get them started. Which meant, before they first arrived (and before the moving vans) stocking their kitchen and fridge and freezer and bathrooms and etc. with stuff they'd need to initially survive.
More important has been the tech support, esp. as, after a few days here (greeting the moving van), they flew back to California to get the house on the market and drive back with the cat.
So, while they've been away, I've been hard at work getting their Comcast router and Wifi set up, their computer connect to it, their printer configured to use it, and their VOIP phone system ready to go.
Also, tonight, I got the TV, cable box, and Blu-Ray player all installed installed (and, for the TV, wall-mounted). I still need to get some configuration on the moving parts done, and write up some usage guides ("To watch a disc, do steps 1, 2, and 3 …"), but I feel pretty satisfied about what's been accomplished.
Next step, after they arrive, is replacing their truly decrepit desktop, which is still running Vista on 2Gb of RAM, and is maddeningly slow …
(And I'm spending an extra day out in California at the end of the month to help my Mom with any tech support issues she has. Storing up my treasure in heaven, I am … )
(For what it's worth I've parasitized shamelessly over the years on my Father-in-Law's Construction-Fu and my Brother-in-Law's Doctor-Fu, so I suppose it's all karmically neutral in the end.)

Comcast?? Damn, you must really hate your in-laws.
Not a lot of alternatives, alas (Qwest DSL and their "entertainment" options?).
Biggest problem right now is that the router is in the worse place in the house for getting WiFi signal anywhere it needs to go. I need to play with that sometime this week.
Can you move the router?
+Les Jenkins the only choices here are Century Link (qwest) or Comcast, and since Century Link is worse that Comcast, the choice is fairly simple.
I can't imagine anything being worse than Comcrap. 😉
