Sounds like someone needs to agree on metaphors.
Meanwhile, the Oregon cake bakers who violated public accommodation law in Oregon — the same law that says you can't refuse service to women, you can't refuse to let a Jew into your public country club, and you can't decline to rent a house to black people — by refusing to bake a cake for a gay couple's wedding, are being fined $135K.
Too much? Too little? Make's no difference — even the presence of such a law is a Horrifying Descent into Holocaust-Like Oppression and Persecution to the folk in the Religious Right who love to drum up support (especially monetary) for their cause.
Is this religious oppression. Only if forcing people who religiously oppose mixing of the races to hire both blacks and whites is religious oppression. Only if requiring a Muslim to rent a hotel room to a Jew is religious oppression. Only if requiring a car dealership to sell cars to women (whom we all know are forbidden by the Deity to drive themselves) is religious oppression.
And, for that matter, only if a gun dealer is morally (if not criminally) complicit in any crimes committed with a gun he lawfully sells.
Still think that, just because it's your True and Jesus-Given Christian Belief and we're talking about Naughty, Wicked, Impure Sodomites here that you get a pass on the law? Sorry, special snowflake, you are not that special.
Final Verdict In Oregon Bakers Case Comes To $135,000 – Right Wing Furious Over ‘Gay Fascism Tax’
In the Sweet Cakes by Melissa anti-gay discrimination case, the final verdict has been handed down, and conservatives are apoplectic.
Melissa looks like she's thinking, "Geez. I should have married Melanie."
But does it deny freedom of expression?
I’m wondering if shops should display a list of hates, while not being able to deny service. At least customers will know if they are thought of as a “filthy sodomite/nigger/Messiah murdering kike”.
On a lighter note – re Gay Facism – the Nazi uniforms were designed by Hugo Boss, which is why the look Fab-U-Lous, and the SS had pink piping!
Will somebody please point out the passage in the Bible that prohibits you from doing business with sinners? I thought only the sins were prohibited, not association of any sort with people who commit them.
Of course, if I'm wrong, then you can't bake cakes for anybody who sins. Who would be included in that group?
+Scott Randel How magnanimous. Those of us not indoctrinated have no need for such platitudes. They serve only to shield oneself from one's own bigotry.
Huh? What platitudes? And how does magnanimity come into play?
If you want me to understand what you're trying to say, please be specific. Vague generalities do not adequately convey your meaning.
+Scott Randel Platitude. A dull remark stated as profound. As in, "the sinner, not the sin". Magnanimous. Showing generosity or a courageous spirit. In this case, used sarcastically. As in hiding behind a platitude to support a bigoted stance. For example, "I like you, Bill. I'll be sure to think about what a wonderful person you are as I contemplate you burning in a lake of fire for all eternity with the man you love."
+Al Hunt, I did not employ the platitude, "Hate the sin, not the sinner." I explained my understanding of religious restrictions in my own words. No platitudes were employed.
Am I to understand that you think that i am lacking in magnanimity because I feel that people should not claim religious persecution when laws do not prevent them from practicing their religion as it is described in their Holy Books? I am a bigot because I do not support the idea that persecution is a God-given right to members of a religion?
Honestly, Al, I don't see how you got that from what I wrote.
[As I reread what you wrote, I begin to suspect that you misunderstood my first comment. For the record, I am an atheist and a liberal who completely supports gay marriage. My comment was to point out that nothing in the Bible supports a claim that anti-discrimination laws prevents a person from practicing Christianity.]
+Scott Randel Where do I mention you?
"+Scott Randel How magnanimous…"
"+Scott Randel Platitude. A dull remark stated as profound…."
+Scott Randel Oh, don't be so full of yourself. How else do I reply to a comment?
I really don't understand what's going on here. What do you think I was trying to say in my comment?
And i quoted those lines because you asked where you mentioned me. What did you mean by that if not "Where did I direct a comment at you?"
You have me completely baffled. It sounds like you are calling me "indoctrinated" and a bigot. Is that not your intent? If it is, why? How am I indoctrinated and what bigotry have I displayed? I honestly do not understand.
+Scott Randel Just what I typed. Read it without placing yourself front and center.
What you typed was prefaced with my name. Where should I…?
Oh, never mind. I'm deleting all my comments here so Dave's page isn't clogged with this.
