If I pretend it something completely new and not at all related to the Tolkien ripoff pastiche homage I read back in my undergrad years, it actually looks like it could be interesting.
"The Shannara Chronicles"? Huh

As the first book after finishing Silmarillion, it was a welcome return to a book that was NOT a giant epic (old school and literal) book.
That every book Brooks has written since is just the same book/plot over and over again is the real shame.
I'll put it on the DVR to see what it is like.
It's been so long I can't even remember the plot. Terry something, right? Brooks?
+Kee Hinckley correct. 🙂
I think I got it in college from an SF book club membership.
it came out literally on the heels of my having just finished LotR (my mistake above — 1977, I was in high school). Even sported a Bros. Hildebrandt cover. I never got over my disappointment.
I still have my copy from way back then, as well as the second book, which I still haven't cracked open.
Ah! The Sword of Sha Na Na and The Elfstones of the Schnorrer!
My 12 yr old self loved those books. My current self hasn't been impressed by that guy's opinions
Yeah, that's the whole thing. You just got to be willing to stop thinking about LotR for a while to enjoy it. Fortunately, it's based on the second book, which at least doesn't have an almost scene by scene playback of Tolkien's work. Just ignore old Gimli there, and it could be a fun little adventure.
+Dave Hill Though it began that way…I believe the subsequent books went on to create a world quite different (and with an interesting twist, that the trailer here pretty much spoiled) and more of it's own merits. But yea, I thought pretty much the same when first reading SoS back in the early 80s 😉
