We watched (one night DVR-delayed) the Colbert premiere on the Late Show, and enjoyed ourselves appropriately (the article below echoes most of my thoughts). It's going to be interesting to see how Colbert evolves in a more open format than The Colbert Report allowed for. It will also be interesting to see if he actually gets me watching a late-night talk show on a semi-regular basis, something no other host has ever done.

In his debut episode, the host looked more than ready to make ‘The Late Show’ his own.
I love Colbert, but now he's just a talk show host. I understand why he couldn't keep being the conservative pundit character, but now he's just a celebrity chit chatter and I couldn't care less.
+Kim Brown There is a diminishment of significance in that — and I suspect that's something Colbert will figuring out what to do about. He doesn't seem like a chit-chatterer, and I don't know that he'll be happy with "just" entertaining.
