Flash isn't dead, but it's been set on the proverbial ice floe

Even Adobe, which owns the technology, is telling people to use HTML5 for animations, and is taking Flash off the name (and default output) of its animation product.

That's all to the good — Flash looked pretty, but it had performance problems, portability problems, security problems, and basically rendered swaths of the Web unsearchable. Good riddance.
