The Donald is shocked, shocked I tell you, to discover that Syrian refugees have (gasp) mobile phones!
"First of all, why are people in a migration having cell phones? It’s sort of strange. Who’s paying for those cell phones? Where are they coming from? Who are they calling? These are people — can you imagine, many, many, many cell phones. Where do they get cell phones? Who pays their monthly bill?"
Donald, guess what? This is the Twenty-first Century, and people all over the world have cell phones. Syria has lots of cell phones — they're not all backwards Stone Age tribes in Borneo, but they have cities and cars and TV sets, too.
Indeed, in lot of the world, the phone infrastructure is all about cell phones, because that's easier to install than land lines.
And let's say you're a Syrian, and you're going to flee Da'esh tyranny, or Assad's military, or any aspect of the civil war over there, a conflict that's killed 200-300 thousand people so far, at least half of them civilians. You have to leave, maybe with only a few moments notice. What do you take? What's something portable that can help you keep in touch with family and get news and carry your family pictures and maybe even help you get a job when you get to wherever you're fleeing?
It's not going to be a Princess phone, Donald.
As to "monthly bill" — have you ever heard of "pay as you go" phones, Donald? They're all the rage among many in the non-billionaire set.
I get it, Donald. I was born long enough to go to think of mobile phones as some amazing whiz-bang piece of tech that only the rich and famous (or at least Middle Class First World types) carry, so if you see some (now) poor people, some refugees, especially from a place where they talk funny, carrying cell phones, your immediate thought (or the thought you want your followers to think of) is, "OMG, they must all be sleeper agents for ISIS who are waiting to get Terror Text Messages telling them to rape our women and burn our churches and blow up our guns!"
Hard to believe it, Donald, but it's just not so.
Trump: Why Do Refugees Have Cell Phones?
At a campaign rally in Mesa, Arizona, today, Donald Trump, discussing reports that several asylum seekers in Norway had images of ISIS flags on their cell phones, wondered how the refugees got access
The ubiquitous cell phone? Wow. BTW, I know you're making up the other stuff.
Sorry, I’ve totally lost my sense of humor about this buffoon.
