Not that our cable is grotesquely slow, but it's hard to argue with More Speed. Also, a private/public partnership around municipal broadband sounds like an idea I want to encourage. Especially to give Comcast a poke in the nose.

My only concern with such partnerships is usually the private side tries to milk the public until it's way over budget.
+Patrick Bick That can certainly be a risk, though I've also seen PPP arrangements that seemed to work efficiently. Given that the city doesn't seem to be offering anyone a monopoly here, I'm not as worried as I might be otherwise.
It's also worth noting that the city actually already has a significant fiber backbone, put in a while back to control traffic signals and with plenty of dark fiber. The partners here are basically helping handle the last mile into the houses.
I am guardedly optimistic.
