I'm glad to see Obama ordering an investigation into this — though not committing to a public report is irksome.
But not as irksome as Trump's continued dismissal of the issue: '“I don’t believe they interfered” in the election, he told Time magazine this week. The hacking, he said, “could be Russia. It could be China. And it could be some guy in New Jersey.”'
He's either being disingenuous, or exemplifying the "I don't want to believe the facts so I'll make some up that I want to believe in" attitude that seems to hold so many of this supporters in sway.
Obama orders review of Russian hacking during presidential campaign
The president says he wants the report before he leaves office, but it’s unclear if it will be made public.
And note that it's not just the Democrats who want this probe.
As Trump will soon discover (and as Jimmy Carter could have told him), just because the Presidency and Congress are controlled by the same party doesn't mean that the President always gets his way.
+John E. Bredehoft Yes, I was happy to see that this was a bipartisan desire (at least around the non-political bits).
How Trump gets along with McConnell and Ryan is going to be interesting to see. I can envision that going a lot of different ways, depending on how or if their interests come into conflict.
And not just the top people. Senators such as John McCain and Ted Cruz can make Trump's life miserable.
+John E. Bredehoft Apparently Ted Cruz makes everyone's life miserable in the Senate. On the other hand, he sure seemed to suck up to Trump by the end of the election cycle, despite the very bad blood from the primaries.
I guess we'll see. I hate to rely on the Congressional GOP to be a check on Trump (or vice-versa), but that's largely what we will have for the time being (along with the Dem Senate narrow minority).
You can (and should ..nudge… give your reps a call or write them a letter if this is something you feel strongly about.
