A chaotically put together retelling of America's early space program, it's still full of great actors, noteworthy moments, and events that overcome its structure.

Four stars. Worth at least one watch.

It's a pretty iconic movie.
It always amused me that it won the best editing Oscar. That's not exactly its strength.
I re-watched this a couple of weeks ago. Sat down at about 10:30pm for "a good movie before bed". Had completely forgotten how ridiculously long it was.
Still awesome, though.
+Colm Buckley Yeah, that was the biggest problem in fitting it into an evening — 3 hours and change is a very run long time, not helped by the structure of the film (i.e., this is not a 3.5 hour long story, but a 3.5 hour long collection of events).
Reading about it, apparently Philip Kaufman, the director and (eventual) screenwriter was a PitA to work for, driving away John Barry as composer and William Goldman as a screenwriter.
