The language is not for the faint of heart, but the article's worth a read, as the author (humorously) investigates claims from the Right (in both media and politics) that the poor in the US are so irresponsible that their lives are full of luxuries like refrigerators, while the rest of us Makers struggle for a paycheck to buy fancy food preparation technology for them. I mean, if they really took things like health care seriously they'd stop buying the latest-greatest iPhones and make that $750 stretch out into years of health insurance payments …
(Side note: this is akin to commenting, seriously, that handicapped people have it great because of all those empty handicapped parking spots right up by the front of the store, and that in a just world they'd simply be rich enough to be limousined there and not inconvenience the rest of us.)
