While I object to the sectarian-ordained imposition of the holy writ of one religion on governmental grounds, vandalism (whether considered or the result of mental illness) is not the answer, and not something to be celebrated. Not only is it a temporary solution, and an unlawful one (though "defacing an object of public respect" is an interesting charge), but it serves as a martyrdom in a sense, further polarizing and inflaming passions.
Courts are not immune to that, rightly or wrongly. And that leads to unfortunate results.
