Testing indicates massive amounts of dioxins — linked to birth defects and cancer — from Superfund sites have been found downstream of the flooding. Pity that Trump has proposed cutting the Superfund budget by a third.

  1. This is precisely what sucks about the Republican view of the future: the rich people won't suffer from this because they have clean water supplies. The poor bear the burden.

  2. Duh and PCBS and hundreds of volitile chemical mixtures.
    Heavy metals, petrochemicals runoff from corporate farming and thousands of tons of mixed waste.
    The bayous and the gulf as well as much of the low lying areas in and around the whole landing zone of Harvey will be a toxic wasteland. I'll take bets on how soon people will be housed in those areas.

  3. +John Bump Actually, the scope of this disaster might very well impact the more wealthy downstream. Whether that will make any difference in political response is another question, but, unlike any toxic waste debates, this isn't solely about poor / minority people living on the outskirts of a dump.
