Apparently Trump's plans to support coal and nuclear plants by executive fiat have run into the problem that it will actually cost money — and customers, utilities, and federal agencies are all reluctant to do so.
So the newest scheme is that, instead of saying that coal is essential for our national grid (since the DoE's own information says otherwise), Trump wants to export coal to Asia for them to burn. The problem is, none of the West Coast states want to have coal export facilities built there, both because of immediate pollution concerns and because of long-term climate impact.
So Trump's administration is now proposing to turn naval bases into coal exporting facilities, because they kinda-sorta get to ignore environmental regulations (both state and federal, which, of course, kicks their environmental clean-up to future generations).
The problem I see with that — aside from the US Navy probably not being thrilled about dedicating naval base space to coal export ports — is that someone will still have to pay for it. Though I guess Trump figures that throwing in another hefty chunk into the Defense budget on behalf of coal mining companies, and calling it all a "national security" concern, will go unnoticed.
Trump’s coal rescue is getting more complicated
Politico report says political will to bail out coal plants is weak at the White House.
How disgusting.
Trump doesn't seem to have the intelligence to know that no matter where the coal is burned it will pollute the air much like peeing in a pool. The USA will still be in line for the pollution. Maybe he has a secret sealed bunker for himself and his family but where will his clean air come from?
+Mary Bays Trump doesn't care about pollution, unless it's directly in his face, and maybe not even then. I believe that he either doesn't care what will happen after he's dead or handwaves that it will be fixed by other people. I do believe he is narcissistic enough not to worry about anyone else except for maybe family, and he figures money will solve all issues they face.
Watch the documentary called Thrive, it's a real eye opener and comes in all different languages
OMG… what a complete idiot. He has to go before it gets any worse
It was a stupid plan all to benefit one eastern power company and east coast coal mining companies that was never going to work because in a for profit world, who is going to generate power at a higher cost just to make someone else happy?
