And so the disinformation begins

The right-of-center Politico reports on currently detectable efforts by right-wing and "foreign state actors" to disseminate false information and discrediting memes against leading announced and unannounced Democratic candidates, including Warren, Harris, Sanders, and O'Roarke — with the dual goals of tearing down those candidates and dividing the Democrats.

So let us observe a moment of sympathy to those candidates not seen as prominent enough to draw such campaigns.

But, having said that … jeez, guys, really? Like the Dems ever outside encouragement to be divided against each other …

  1. Social media ie Twitter, FB & lots more just show only believe half of what you read. Lots of bits & spam spreading false information.I read an article today & I knew it was suspicious based on content. 🇺🇸☮️

  2. +Berns B. There's certainly a lot of misinformation out there, esp. designed to mesh with confirmation bias.

I know I end up applying certain strategies about the stuff I see and read, based in part on the depth of the profiles of the people posting.

  3. This article talks about "attempts to divide America". Isn't that exactly what an election does? I'm happy to be divided against Trump supporters, or corporate Democrats.

And yes, I get tons of sex spam too whenever I post on certain topics, although with me it's more often anti-Clinton posts.

  4. The candidates have to start fighting right back NOW…for practice, at least (request a seminar-lesson from our very dear Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez!) If any of them should get the nomination, and can't fight back against the likes of Hater-racist, LYING Donald trump (if not impeached by then), then they should all just step off the stage already!!

  5. +William Wells I'm not saying elections or primary campaigns should be a kumbaya fest. I'm saying that covert lies and propaganda by outside parties purely to foment lasting division within the Democratic party, and denigrate and weaken any any final Democratic candidate, is wrong and should be watch out for when judging social media, etc., coming out about Democratic candidates over the coming months.

  6. Sure, but let me tell you a little secret.

The best propaganda, by far, is the inconvenient truth.

I'm not about to start censoring what I view as factual information that just happens to not be corporate media approved. For instance, I see loads of factual reporting on RT.com, a russian news organization. They have their bias pieces as well, but they also do reporting on many stories the western media totally ignores. If you want to know what's really going on in Syria for instance, read RT.

  7. +William Wells Nobody's asking you to buy into "corporate media" (or, for that matter, "state-approved media" like RT). I, and the article, are talking about fake-account, agitprop memes and fake news to explicitly create divisions within the Democratic party.
