  1. As a Brit I have to point out the mistakes 🙂

    * The blue Ireland should be labelled “The Irish Republic” or “Eire”

    * It doesn’t distinguish between The Channel Isles and The Isle of Man, which are crown dependencies, and Eire which is a fully independant sovereign nation

    * Where’s Qwghlm? 😉

  2. Qwghlm you say.

    A fictional island with a simular standing to that of the Isle of Man. ;P

    Yep, Eire or The Irish Republic would be correct (But I chalk this up to a UK bias).

    Politically it doesn’t distinguish between the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, but it does say that the Channel Islands are not part of the “British Isle”.

    Rockall? ;P

  3. 1. Well, the text version spells out the difference more succinctly. I’d think that most folks would recognize “Ireland” (in blue) in context as the Republic of Ireland in the same way that they’d recognize the United Kingdom (short form of “The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland”).

    2. You are correct in its lacking of distinction between the different states of not-UK (Isle of Man and Channel Islands vs. Eire). Probably need a third color to show the relationship of crown dependencies.

    As a read of the text version indicates, there’s plenty of political sensitivity over precise nomenclature. 🙂
