Microsoft is buying SwiftKey

SwiftKey has been my Android keyboard of choice for some time now. I'm not particularly thrilled that MS is buying them, but that's more on general principles than the, um, paranoia I've seen in some of the comment threads.

At any rate, congratulations to the founders, and I hope your baby will be in reasonably good hands.

  1. Swiftkey always had one failing for me; a very limited number of suggestions per word (3, I think). I guess I was just inaccurate enough to benefit from Swype's larger selection of alternatives…

  2. Generally 3, but that's usually been enough for me.

    Keyboard apps are definitely one of those "If you have found one that serves you well, consider yourself blessed" things — I've never seen the point of folk getting all tribal arguing about whose is better in some objective sense. 🙂

  3. +Dave Hill that is probably the most sensible thing I have read on any post about this story!!

    I personally don't use Swiftkey but that is not because I think it is bad, I just prefer a different one, but i hope that Microsoft don't do anything stupid with it so those that have been using it can continue to use it.

  4. Dave, the most recent I've used is whatever the default is on the current iPhone 6S, which is what we're deploying at the moment. I find it ridiculous that I have to switch to an entirely different set of characters just to input a couple of numbers and then switch back.
