With apologies to those occasional house guests who actually want to watch something on it, I'm frankly more than happy to live without having (or paying for) ESPN.

That's not what I'm seeing. I'm seeing that they are trying to recapture cord cutters with an Internet subscription of their lesser content. So you pay for ESPN on cable, or can pay separately.
That would be lovely. On the other hand, I doubt my cable bill would go down even one tiny bit.
