Now and again there are these GOP politicians who bubble up to the top of the stew that get loud cheers and huzzahs from the madding crowd because they dissent from one particular vote, or say a particularly biting thing about the GOP president, Mr Trump.
And then they sink back into the pot.
I heard some folk saying yesterday, “If Jeff Flake wants to strike out against Donald Trump, why doesn’t he just caucus with the Democrats until he retires?” The answer is obvious: because, frankly, he’s still a dyed-in-the-wool Republican, and aside from finding even Donald Trump more loose-cannon and infantile than even he can stomach, Flake is still more than happy to go along with the GOP anti-consumer, anti-woman, anti-minority, pro-military, pro-business, pro-gun collection of policy positions.
Flake, Corker, McCain — just because they occasionally surprise, just because the sometimes say critical things about Donald Trump, doesn’t mean that they are great friends of the nation, let alone the Left, nor that they aren’t fully bought into the vast majority (if not all) the GOP talking points. They are not “rogues,” “mavericks,” or heroes. Or, for that matter, “RINOs” (except in some world of absolutist Trumpism). They are proud and righteous members of the Republican Party. It’s useful to remember that.
Those “heroic rogue GOP senators” just helped Trump shield Equifax and Wells Fargo from lawsuits

I can't think of anything good to say about the Republican party – they have proven time and again that they care nothing about justice.
+Sheri Brown are you kidding??? What world are you living in? Are you watching the verified evidence coming out about the DNC, the Clinton campaign, and the Obama Admin DOJ. Are you aware of any of these verified facts now coming to light. Yes the swamp exists on both sides of the political aisle but your statement demonstrates absolute ignorance.
+Brian Van Dyck that doesn't have anything to do with what the article is about does it. Also verified by who? When? Unless you saw scans of court affidvit don't believe anyone
+Sheri Brown As a party, I agree. There are a few remaining moderate Republicans who have held the line on some issues. But Jeff Flake is a deep-dyed conservative, one of the most so in the Senate. The only reason he's in trouble is not his devotion to GOP policy, but his unwillingness to support Donald Trump, which are (and should be) very different things. That he's being hounded from office by the anti-establishment Trumpistas that have taken over the Republican base demonstrates that not only is the Republican party morally bankrupt, but rapidly becoming a mob.
The maverick label has mostly been a joke and I was very surprised when he actually blocked the Trumpcare votes.
+Stan Pedzick But it's worth noting that his public reason, at least for doing so [1] was concern over process and propriety, not that he was worried about sick people dying or folk getting thrown off Medicaid. He was more than happy to vote for the same thing a few weeks later.
[1] vs. any private pique he may have been nursing toward Trump
