No, really, this time. Per the e-mail from the CIO this a.m.:
Dave Hill will also be joining Enterprise Services [the applications development group] to lead the new Tactical Workgroup Solutions team which will be a focused group of developers providing high impact, workgroup development services to our corporate and engineering clients. [Four names I don’t recognize] will be joining Dave.
I guess that means I have to start working really hard again, doesn’t it.

BTW…Tactical Workgroup Solutions Team was sort of a really cool Wargamer sound to it…

It’s actually an ad hoc committee name, i.e., I came up with “Tactical,” my New New Boss came up with “Workgroup” and the CIO decided he liked the sound of “Solutions.” It still works, and it actually describes what we’ll be doing (and, yes, it sounds cool).
Given that the team I was leading up over the last several months never really had a name (except a really lame one that the previous incumbant had given it, and since it was lame and he sort of left under a cloud, nobody ever mentioned it), it’s a definite improvement.
Hmmmm … looking at the Mystery Names that have been grabbed for me …
One is a guy in Glasgow. One is a guy in Reading, England. I smell a business trip coming on …
(Though it does mean that I’ll have to schedule business phonecons in the morning, since it’s a 7 hour difference.)
The other two are in our Sacramento office. They are, I believe, folks who are working on/supporting a system that, back the last time I was in the applications realm, I was in charge of. And which drove me, yelling and screaming and shell-shocked, to Denver. There’s irony for you.
The group is smaller than was previosly discussed. I think I need to talk with my New New Boss and find out what’s shaking.

There’s actually another group of three who will be both working for me and for the biz ops folks, matrixed (which is sort of how I thought this was all going to work in some fashion, anyway), but also involved in some blast-from-the-past applications. Don’t have the full scoop yet, but more to come, obviously.

So it turns out, after a phone call with the New New Boss and the CIO …
… there are in fact other folks who will probably be in the group, but kinda-sorta, and it’s a big political powder keg that could go blooey if not handled well. Which is one reason why I was put into this position.
… there may be someone in Denver who’s part of the group, which would be refreshing.
… nobody on the published list of folks working for me has been formally told this is going to happen. Monday will be a day of Many Phone Calls, first to their bosses, next to them.
… they want me traveling to two or three locations, including the UK, between now and when I’m out in California later this month. Which is going to be very tight scheduling, for a variety of reasons (including personal ones).
But that’s enough of that for now …
Yow, that is a LOT of flying. Yow.
