Notes from Katherine’s writing journal:
9/8 How storys start
1. sound (clang)
2. queston (Have you ever been to gorgtown
3. Conversation (All abord
4. Setting (build it)
5. Details. Backround
I’ve seen a lot of stories — stuff that’s actually published — all the weaker forgetting those ideas.
9/11 Story Endings
- Good story needs a good ending.
- Know ending before beginning
- You need to have a strong ending.
- Do not add somthing new to the end.
- Leave the reader hanging.
- Make the ending the best part.
- In a seiras let book X lead into book Y
Again, some great advice. A lot of books by a lot of authors (many of whom I respect) suffer from a poor ending. Which you can tell because it’s always the second or third thing people mention about it. “I loved this book, though the ending was sort of abrupt / weak / a let-down.”
